As commander of The American Legion, Narraguagus Post 8, in Cherryfield, Maine, I welcome you to our website. We are hoping that through this website we will be able to keep our membership, which is currently around one hundred, informed about what’s happening at Post 8. Our membership is rather scattered in Washington County, and it is difficult to get everyone together for meetings and other events. This website should provide our far-flung members an opportunity to tune in to upcoming events and learn more about our activities.
We are having financial difficulties right now due to the suspension of Beano due to low attendance. Our kitchen is in process of a major renovation and we are actively soliciting cash, labor and materials donations. Please consider us.
Although our primary goal is to serve the veterans and support citizens in our surrounding communities, we, also, believe that we need to inform our youths about the role that veterans have played in our country’s history. We want them to become aware of the dedication and service of veterans who have fought and sacrificed much to protect their Constitutional rights and privileges. Also, we want them to realize the importance of reciting the pledge of allegiance each school day and why we should all display and respect the American flag.
Our meetings are the first Thursday of each month (except June, July, and August) at 7:00 P.M. We do a potluck before the meeting starting at 6:00. Hope to see old members and potential new members there!
Commander
