WORLD WAR II VETERANS HONORED AT 2013 VETERANS DAY SUPPER

WWII Veterans were presented with Certificates of Honor and a WWII Victory Medal at a delicious supper served by the Unit 8 Auxiliary thanks to President Lois Tenan. MEMBER RUTH MOORE TESTIFIES BEFORE CONGRESS

This spring one of our newest members, Navy veteran Ruth Moore of Milbridge bravely faced the US Congress in Washington, DC and testified in support of legislation lowering the burden of proof establishing sexual assault as a treatable issue with the Veterans Administration. Representation Chellie Pingrew is sponsoring the bill which after failing the first time has passed and has been named the Ruth Moore Act as a tribute to Ruth’s courage in describing the rape by a Navy supervisor and how the Navy shunned her and forced her discharge.

We are proud of Ruth! Legion

Five Generations
Five Generations Enjoying Freedom

Pictured here are an amazing five (5) female generations of Muriel Beal’s family and almost “all” Auxiliary members. As soon as the girls are born, they are enrolled as members of Unit 8, Narraguagus American Legion, Post 8. Together, they put on a comprehensive Christmas party for over 125 local small children and their families. These women and girls cooked, provided Santa, had goodies and raffles, decoration making and cookie decoration and gifts for the many children. The Ladies Auxiliary has been staging this annual event for over 50 years that Matriarch Muriel can remember, always providing home knitted warm mittens and hats for the children. Muriel, who is to Santa’s left holding a great, great grand daughter was in charge of the mitten distribution table as she always is. The driving force in the family is 2nd generation daughter, Betty White who directs the three grand daughters, Heather, Hilery and Holly in the event planning, organization and “doing.”
